The magic of summer camp

At just 4 years old, Natalia Corrigall and her family had to face the most frightening words of all: “You have cancer.”

Natalia’s mom Christa and dad Dax immediately put their lives on hold, giving up their jobs, their support systems and their home to travel hours from their hometown to be with their daughter for treatment. After months of living in a hospital, Christa and Dax were exhausted, overwhelmed and frightened at the thought of leaving the hospital safety net.

Everything changed for the Corrigall family once they got to Family Camp at Camp Goodtimes, designed to support families affected by childhood cancer. Along with their youngest daughter, who had been living with her grandmother during Natalia’s treatment, the family had a chance to reconnect, relax and just have fun.

Thanks to donors like you, who helped provide the  Camp Essentials needed to give every child with cancer the experience of a lifetime, Natalia still can’t stop raving about the activities.  Her favourites included archery, dress up, carnival day and rock climbing a long and action-packed list!

For Christa, the photos she has of her daughters playing and having fun at camp represent some of her most cherished memories.

“Camp was one of the best things to happen in our whole lives,” says Christa. “It was the main reason our family was able to stick together through this. Marriages, parental relationships, siblings, and all the interconnected relationships that balance a family are truly supported by the experience of camp.”

Christa and her family have one grateful message for the donors who made their camp experience possible: “Thank you for supporting our family and so many others who need the magic we get to carry around all year.”
