Ron Keddie was newly retired when he got some results from a routine physical that he could never have expected: he had an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

After undergoing major surgery, Ron would need to have 37 radiation treatments. At a time when he should have been focusing on his health, he found himself worrying about how he would get to the treatments he needed.

“I had no idea how I was going to get to the hospital,” recalls Ron. “It was a two-hour roundtrip drive. I didn’t know if anyone would be able to take me.”

 At the recommendation of one of his healthcare providers, Ron reached out the Canadian Cancer Society’s (CCS) transportation service.

Thanks to support from donors like you, Ron discovered a whole new support system that was there for him when he needed it the most. The transportation service, which you help make possible, meant that Ron could depend on rides to and from his radiation treatments over the next 2½ months.

And for Ron, that made all the difference. 

“The transportation service was a shining light in the darkness,” he says. “The drivers were friendly, courteous and always on time. They took away some of the extra worries that came with my treatments.”

Thanks to your support of Give a Ride, Ron was just one of more than 10,800 patients last year who were able to rely on CCS to reach their life-saving cancer treatments.
